DIY tapestry headboard

moving into a full size house in LA after leaving our tiny, two-bedroom, lower east side, NYC pad was really exciting for me and my roommate. but then, when we moved into our hollywood house, it got even better… we have an extra room! we struggled at first to decide what purpose it should serve, and ultimately we decided on an extra bedroom for guests… we’re such grown-ups!

we call it “the virgin room” because it is filled with virgin mary stuff… yes, we have an obsession (see here).  anyways, that is besides the point… this post is about the fabric headboard we made.  instead of using a decorative blanket ON your bed, why not use it BEHIND or ABOVE your bed?!

for this project, all you need is:

  • a hammer
  • fabric
  • nails!

we decided on this awesome Moroccan-y, colorful blanket as the backboard.  we hammered it to the top of the wall, and then extended it out over the bed so it creates a little cave.

this is a super fast and easy way to decorate your bedroom (or your guest bedroom) and spice it up with some color or fun fabric that would otherwise be used on a bed! a great for a kids room toomaybe get a cloud print and create an airy canopy that feels like your sleeping in the clouds!

The blanket is called a Suzani — I would try eBay or just typing in “Suzani” on Google! Hope that helps :)

ahh i love that idea! i cant do it though :< my nose is extremely sensitive to dust and fur and stuff, which is such a pity because that would look amazing in any room!
