design inspo: faux sheepskin

Fuzzy/fluffy sheepskin is making a resurgence in interior design as of late. I always had one as a rug at the side of my bed when I was growing up so the first thing my feet touched in the morning was softness. Since I love the look, but don’t necessarily want to take the hide off an animals back, I wondered, is there was way to get cozy soft texture in your home without taking the fur off an animal’s back?…faux sure! There are tons of faux fur options for the home now being offered at stores like Ikea (faux sheepskins) and Restoration Hardware (faux fur throws).

Faux and I go way back…faux fur hat, caplet, jacket, and even a little faux bob!

In our recent office re-design at the Mr. Kate Headquarters, I draped Ikea faux sheepskins over various office chairs. It makes them look much more cozy and also gives the chairs a cohesive element since they don’t all match!

Aside from Roxanne and Winston (our cats) we have other fuzziness in our own living room with two faux sheepskins draped over the two turquoise side chairs. You can see more from our apartment in my home tour.

I added fuzzyness to some modern, metal chairs in a client’s home…It’s great to pair something more organic or rugged with something very industrial and structured. You know how I love juxtaposition!

Some other fuzz-spiration…

Faux fur throw blankets from Restoration Hardware are luxurious and look amazing on a couch or at the foot of a bed.

They add warmth and look great on ghost chairs!

What do you think?? What elements do you add to your space for warmth and coziness?

Hi, I love faux sheepskin too, but I was wondering if there’s a way to sort of tint it another color, without it losing it’s softness?
