roundup: dreamy picnics

Warm weather means it’s picnic time!! Picnics are a fun and intimate way to spend some quality time outdoors with friends and lovers – yes, plural loversss. I’d say my favorite picnic memories are from one summer when my mom rented an apartment in Paris to take classes at the Sorbonne and my sister and I would eat baguettes and cheese in the Luxembourg Gardens under the trees. (sigh), I wish I was there right now – but I’m not, I’m home, it’s cloudy outside, and there’s some dude installing a new washer and dryer and making a lot of noise.
So, in lieu of being in Paris, eating fresh bread in dappled sunlight, let’s get inspired for our pending Summer picnics with this roundup of the dreamiest picnics. You’ll notice that the common element in these photos and I think, the key to making a picnic feel luxurious, is having items that you would normally put indoors as part of your outdoor picnic i.e. rugs, pillows, real plates and glasses, candles, etc.

  • A beach picnic! You could also cozy up in a little fort like the one I made in BEACHella! Bringing a rug to the beach is the ultimate luxury. You can put a plastic tarp down underneath the rug to protect the fibers from all the sand. Pillows and some beautiful food on beautiful plates and you’ll never want to leave!

  • Bohemian picnics, someplace rustic, with eclectic elements such as old crates, mis-matched and colorful pillows, candles, rugs, birdcages, crates, blankets, overflowing flower bouquets, ribbons in the trees and a hot man sitting next to you on your cozy blanket.

  • Chic tailgating picnic! Think about a creative location to bring some fluffy pillows, blanket and a basket with yummy treats – I wouldn’t advise doing this while the truck is moving however – safety first!

  • Don’t forget the music! A portable record player adds a vintage touch and books are great weights to hold down blankets and such.

Where are your favorite places to picnic? Do you have essentials/traditions you always make sure to bring?

I <3 this idea and recently had a dreamy tea party with some friends. my main focus was to mix vintage-y elements with natural elements. for example we had an old silver tea set and dishware lots of flowers and a lace table cloth, but our tea party was out doors with scarves and rugs an things as well as organic log benches and LOTS of cupcakes :)
