yes please! waking up to luscious green mountains right outside your giant sliding glass window panels = amazing! while the location is a bit on the expensive side here’s some other ways to…

get this look:

- pharmacy or architect lamps – some good cheap options at Target

- beige quilted cotton coverlet – a nice one on sale here

- fresh flowers – always a nice addition but make sure they’re local!

- i bet you could DIY a cool wood sculpture like the one above, just find a fallen branch, sand it and attach some cool legs!

today was a wackadoo day, i went to Fry’s electronics in manhattan beach (aka f’ing far away) to get a laser printer, which they were out of. then ate lunch at M Cafe with Ali (an amazing macrobiotic restaurant), then went to therapy, then got so tired i took an afternoon nap, which i never do! then went to M Cafe again for dinner so Joey’s dad could try it (we got the Carolina BBQ sandwich, sweet corn chowder, broccolini, kale and sweet potato fries), then to target for brita filters, baby wipes and cosmetics (they carry the Physicians Formula Organic Wear which doesn’t have any parabens or synthetic preservatives). i also got some fake eyelashes for Dan and Rachel’s wedding this weekend!

my friend Hannah Stiefel is a marketing exec in show biz and she’s way cool! she went to Highland Hall for a year (the same Waldorf school i went to from kindergarden through 12th grade) and then went to a Quaker boarding school for high school! so intriguing!

…anyhoowatz, i went over to her apartment recently to drop of some Mr. Kate jewelry that she ordered….she obviously has good taste (i’ll post her happy customer pics soon), and i was so enchanted with her interior decorating style! …it is sort of sherlock holmes meets louis and clark meets bohemian/flea market meets ethnic… with these fantastic tripod table lamps she found at Target… i’m a sucker for anything fab found on-the-cheap!

the red shoe district

todays cloudy day adventure took us to Venice Beach. Joey, Ali and i went to lunch at Seed, a macrobiotic restaurant, where we had some amazing burgers and bowls of seasonal goodness and mini vegan red velvet cupcakes! then we walked the boardwalk and debated getting tattoos…we didn’t.

some highlights: Ali’s orange rain boots, walking on the sand in wedges, a sneak peek of the prototype of a new ring i’m working on, an abandoned freak show, crazy painted walls, a psychic dog, and a lonely felt mustache that Ali spotted on the boardwalk…it was a sign!

my duds: Velvet dress, Target lace leggings and scarf, Kmart yellow jacket, vintage Dior leg warmers, steve madden boots, urban bag, all Mr. Kate jewelry including new ring (coming soon!). Ali’s duds: Hunter rain boots, american apparel shirt, random leggings and beanie, banana republic jacket, vintage purse, Mr. Kate jewelry (bow ring, screw you in black silver, black silver cereal ring).

Joey and i are watching Out Rage now. it’s a documentary about closeted gay politicians. it’s so fascinating/sad/maddening how their secrecy makes them hate the very thing they are, and thus vote against any gay rights measure. it is definitely a flaw in our culture that we don’t celebrate people for who they really are.

following post suited only for MATURE audiences…

last weekend i attended my friend Dan and Rachel’s engagement party. i’m not too experienced with wedding gift etiquette and i wasn’t sure if it was expected to give an engagement gift. the general consensus seemed to be no. no engagement gift but yes, bridal shower and wedding gift. okaaay, but i love giving presents! so i decided to just have fun with it and give them an “adult” themed gift box of random goodies. i set off to Target to find some cheap, random things that i could work into my box and decided to let the things i found (all under $5) dictate the theme for the box. i later stopped at a sex shop to fill in the dirty gaps.

finds: with my strict budget in mind, i combed Target finding all the cheapest things and then imagining how they could all fit together.
from Target: paper towels, hangers, candle, ice pack, goldfish, mini parsley growing kit, men’s winter gloves, women’s winter gloves, a 500 piece puzzle, and poppers.
from sex shop: weird pink finger things, mini bottle of lube and red feather tickler.

putting it together: based off of the sexy adult theme, and the poppers, and them being engaged etc., i thought to call the box/kit the “Pop, Goes the Hymen” kit. first i took a shoe box and covered it with tissue paper and ribbon, then i printed out these labels from Martha Stewart (love!) and figured out how each separate item could fit in with the over-all theme, excluding the sex shop purchases, which i figured were pretty self-explanatory.
labels: paper towels: for cleanup, candle: to find the right hole, parsley growing kit: for practice growing tiny things, men’s gloves: for warm nipple rubs, women’s gloves: for fuzzy hand-jobs, hangers: for an accident or drying wet sheets, ice pack: for the after burn, goldfish: for a snack break, and puzzle: for the off night.

the resulting silly and risque box was a hit at the party…. especially those weird pink rubber finger things.
