DIYable backpacks roundup
got the back-to-school blues? well why not get your brain juices flowing with a little DIY to the ol’ backpack!? i rounded up these 4 DIYable backpack spruce-ups that i think will make you the coolest in the schoolest. and, if you’re not in school, do it to a backpack anyway! i use a backpack for my computer bag.
for starters, how about 1. a felt cut-out of a mustache and pipe (above) fabric glued to a canvas backpack? or represent Mr. Kate and do a mustache and beauty mark!
2. studs! how i love them. and her close friend spike, dig him too. just use the same technique i used in this DIY Studded and Spiked Shorts video to add some metal to your backpack wherever you want. shop for studs and spikes here!
3. splatter paint! get your creative juices throwing with a plain backpack, some fabric paint, a paint brush and a drop cloth or trash bag (as not to splatter the surrounding area – unless you want, splattered walls are a cool look!). dip the paintbrush in one color at a time and fling it at the backback to create a nifty and one-of-a-kind splatter pattern! you could even do bleach splatters on a dark colored backpack (like the middle photo above), just be careful because bleach is strong stuff, splatter where necessary.
4. lace! embellish your backpack with some pretty lace trim (either vintage or from the fabric store). i love the pastel colors above. use the same technique i did in this DIY Lace Shorts video to attach your lace trim with fabric glue – no sew!
